Answers to questions that may come up

How much does therapy cost?

Individual sessions (CAD): 45 min — $115 · 60 min — $150 · 90 min — $225. Couples (CAD): 60 min — $200 · 90 min — $300. Payment is processed securely through the Jane portal.

Is psychotherapy covered by insurance in Ontario?

Many extended health plans cover psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), but every plan is different — check with your provider before we begin. I provide receipts for reimbursement.

What happens in a first session?

We'll talk about what's bringing you here, what you'd like to be different, and any questions you have about the process. There's no test to pass and nothing you need to prepare.

How often will we meet, and for how long?

Most clients begin with regular sessions of 45, 60, or 90 minutes. Therapy continues for as long as it's useful to you — we'll review regularly.

How do virtual sessions work?

By secure video, from any private space in Ontario. You need a stable connection and a quiet room. I'll send the link when you book.

In which language are sessions held?

English, Portuguese, or a mix — your choice, session by session.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is protected by Ontario's health privacy laws (PHIPA). There are a few legal limits to confidentiality — such as an immediate risk of harm to yourself or others — and technical considerations for virtual security. I will explain all of these clearly during our initial intake so you feel completely comfortable before we start.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes plans need to change. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, we kindly ask that you provide at least 24 hours' notice whenever possible.

Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed without notice, may be subject to the full session fee. Cancellation fees are generally not covered by insurance and will need to be paid before or at the time of your next appointment.

The standard psychotherapy session is 60 minutes. We recognize that everyone's needs are different, and you are welcome to discuss a different session length with your therapist. Any changes to the standard session length need to be arranged in advance so that the appropriate time can be reserved for you.

We understand that emergencies and unexpected illness can happen. In these circumstances, exceptions to the cancellation policy may be made at the therapist's discretion.

Consistent attendance and adequate notice when changes are needed help us protect your scheduled time and support the continuity of your therapeutic work. If there are repeated missed appointments or late cancellations, we may need to revisit the scheduling arrangement or, in some circumstances, discuss whether continuing services is the best fit.

Do you work with children or teens?

I work with adults. If you're a parent looking for support around family life, that's very welcome — but I don't offer therapy directly to children or teens.

What is your current availability?

I work with a limited number of clients so each person gets my full attention. Current openings are shown on my Jane booking page — if nothing fits right now, you're welcome to check back.

What if I'm in crisis?
