Support for grief and loss

Grief is not only about death. We grieve people, and we also grieve places, health, roles, plans, and versions of life we thought we would have. Sometimes the loss is one everyone can see; sometimes it is one you carry alone, because no one quite understands that it counts.

There is no schedule for grief, and no correct way to do it. In our sessions, your loss gets the space it deserves — at your pace, without being rushed toward moving on.

What grief can look like

  • Sadness that arrives in waves
  • Numbness or disbelief, even long after
  • Anger, guilt — or a relief that feels hard to admit
  • Trouble sleeping or concentrating
  • Feeling out of step with everyone else's normal life
  • Dreading dates, places, or reminders

Who this is for

This work is for adults grieving a death — recent or long ago — and for those living with other losses: separation, migration, illness, the end of a role or a dream. My research was with family caregivers and aging, so I hold a particular tenderness for people grieving someone they cared for over a long time.

What sessions focus on

Grief doesn't need fixing; it needs room. Our work might include:

  • Telling the story of who — or what — you have lost
  • Making room for the whole mix of feelings, without ranking them
  • Finding ways to carry the loss that don't require letting go of what mattered
  • Support through anniversaries and hard seasons
  • Gently re-engaging with life as it is now

My approach draws on evidence-based methods — including cognitive-behavioural, emotion-focused, and solution-focused therapy — always shaped around you: your story, your language, your pace.

Working together

Sessions are by secure video, anywhere in Ontario, in English or Portuguese. Everything starts with a brief initial conversation, so we can talk about what brings you here and see whether we are a good fit. See how it works for fees and what to expect.

You don't have to sort this out alone.

If something in you is asking for a space to talk, this is a good place to start.
